The Wolf of Wall Street

So the last Best Picture nominees I watched before the show was The Wolf of Wall Street. Even though I had planned to watch more than last year, I only managed to get through 4 out of 10. So alas.

If you're not familiar with the plot of this movie, simply put it's about Jordan Belfort, and his rise to a wealthy stockbroker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government. And it's all based on a true story.
The real Jordan Belfort even makes a small
appearance in the movie.
This one was a bit of a challenge for me, because of the swearing and drugs as all that jazz. So my opinion of this movie might be somewhat biased because of that, so please take that into account.

With that said I think overall it was a good movie. It had entertaining values. But to be honest, it could have worked just fine if it had been 2 hours long, instead of 3. So much was just filler to prove a point. But again, this might just be me waiting most of the scenes with sex and drugs cut down. Because I think it was all a bit too much. Cut out half of those scenes, and the point about Jordan & Co partying like animals would still be made just fine. Maybe just one or two montages would have worked fine. Instead (as I remember it, it's been like a month since I saw it) we got like 4 different montages throughout the movie.
And honestly, I would have liked to have the whole deal how they earned their money explained a bit more detailed, because I'm still not even sure how they did it. It was basically a scam, but it's still a bit vague. Which is kinda the reason I wanted to see the movie in the first place (before it got nominated). Like I love stories about con artists and shit, so I was intrigued. But what I got was 3 hours of swearing and boobs and drugs. So again, that's just my personal standpoint. Maybe other people won't see those things so clearly as I do.

I'm gonna keep this short, so the last thing I'll say is that the movie does deliver wonderfully in the acting department. I especially enjoyed Jonah Hill's performance. I also got a little kick out of
Cristin Milioti's appearance. She is just so adorable, so even if we didn't really get to know her character, I still felt with her when Jordan was being an ass.
But yeah, as I said it was just a bit too long for me, and had some elements that made the experience a bit sour for me, but overall good movie.

And this concludes my Best Picture 2014 nominee round (or at least until I get finish school and get some time to watch the rest). So yeah. Go see it if you like extravagant and "loud" movies.
