5 Days of War

First off I just wanted to say that the main reason I watched this movie was because my dad kept telling me to do so. We were talking one day about Argo and I kept saying how much I loved it, and he kept saying I should watch this one because they're somewhat similar. Which I kinda agree with and then again not. He also said that I should watch it because the whole thing with Russia and Crimea going on is sorta the same that's going on with Russia and the Georgian Republic in this movie. This one came a bit before Argo though, it's from 2011, and the former from 2012.

5 Days of War is a movie based on true events, and tells the story of a renegade American journalist, his cameraman and a local woman caught behind enemy lines, and determined to not only survive, but tell the world what was happening, during the swift but devastating 5-day war between Russian and the Georgian Republic in 2008.

First off let's talk about how hot Rupert Friend looks with his face all smashed up? Gosh darn beautiful. Or maybe it's just me. I have a thing for beat up men, schhh

I prepared for this review by skimming through some other articles about this movie, and overall people got too caught up in acting, overuse of cgi and other weird stuff. Because yeah, the movie ain't a cinematic masterpiece and probably won't get a lot of critical acclaim. But I did enjoy this movie. I thought the acting was acceptable and fine, and I didn't really register the supposed overuse of cgi. But then again, I may have viewed this movie in another light than the "professional" movie reviewers.
So for a movie about injustice and violence, and innocent people getting slaughtered, it is a great movie. Some parts where harsh, and emotional (a certain wedding, and later a driving scene), and other parts more political and serious. But that's what war is, isn't it? Politics, violence and innocent deaths?
(The most appropriate thing you can do in the middle of war and destruction? Take a selfie.)
Through the first half of the movie, I spent quite a while thinking about the lead actress, who's pictured above. Because my mind first wanted her to be Nina Dobrev (from The Vampire Diaries), but I was pretty sure I would have heard if she was in a movie like this. But I was so sure I had scene her before. And then some time later it hit me. She'd been in a few episodes of The Mentalist, and after that realisation, I felt a certain ease and I could focus more on the movie. Which also meant I could focus more on her acting, instead of trying to determine how similar she was to Miss Dobrev. And since I did enjoy her on The Mentalist, I found myself liking her in this movie.
Some stupid decisions where made in this movie, and my dad and I where getting quite angry about the stupid people, but I guess it just makes the movie more real. Because stupid people do exists and are everywhere.

I don't know what else to say about this movie? If you like suspense, war/action and a hint of politics and history, then by all means give it a try. I liked it, maybe you will too?
